Tips on how to make your home feel cosier and comfier throughout the colder months
Despite the lovely Indian summer we experienced recently, autumn has arrived and whether you are excited for the change of season or distraught about the end of summer, it’s time to fall into autumn.
The leaves are changing colour, it’s getting colder, the days are shorter and the nights are longer.
With the arrival of autumn and winter, you want your home to be as snug as possible. There are a number of ways you can make your home comfier, cosier and more aesthetically pleasing for autumn.
Deep clean and declutter your house
First things first, you want a clean and tidy canvas to work from. Many of us do a ‘spring clean’ but an autumn clean is also the perfect time to refresh your home.
Add some autumnal colours
The gorgeous yellows, oranges, deep reds and browns of autumn are an ideal way to create a cosier, more seasonably appropriate colour palette to add some warmth to your home. This can be done by adding some blankets, ornaments, cushions or even with your bedding.
Make use of warm lighting
Bright white lights are nice in the spring and summer to continue to the effect of the brighter, sunnier days once the sun has finally set. However, when it comes to autumn and winter, they can create a cold feeling indoors. The yellow and orange hues of warm lighting will help to make your living space a comfortable and cosy place to spend the longer, darker nights (and mornings)!
Transform rooms by adding wallpaper or with a fresh coat of paint
A more extreme and time-consuming way to get in the seasonal mood but if you love autumn, it’s an effective and worthwhile way to give your home a real autumnal feeling. You can do this in specific rooms you may now be spending more time in compared to the summer months. However, if you are a tenant, please remember this may not be an option depending on your agreement.
Top it all off by igniting your sense of smell
Now you’ve got your home looking and feeling wonderfully seasonal, the perfect finishing touch is to add some autumnal scent. Use scented candles, diffusers and even air fresheners of typical autumnal scents, such as ginger, apple, berries, bergamot and of course, spiced pumpkin. Immersing your sense of smell is the best way to get the most out of any experience.
