We know at the Property Store that when you move into a new house, you can’t help but be excited to decorate and make the space more ‘you’. That is why we came together to come up with these 5 “Rental Friendly Décor Ideas” to make a house your home!

A canvas instead of paint

Colours are important in any living space, they help create a tone for the room. For example, yellow has connotations of optimism, energy, joy, and happiness, a colour that you may often see used in a nursery. Whereas the colour blue has connotations of calmness or serenity, a colour that you may often see at your dentist. As a letting agency we understand the importance of colour in your home, but why not instead of painting, you use large canvasses with your desired colours used heavily throughout the picture. There is no rule book when it comes to what looks good in your own home, you could use as few or as many canvasses as you please. We have attached some inspirational photos that may help when choosing the sizing, layout, and colours of your canvasses!

Why not get creative? Get the family together and create art, this is a great way to decorate while spending time with the family, combine all your favourite colours and make a personalised canvas that will last forever!

Peel and stick tiles

For rental properties, peel and stick tiles are an excellent idea. You can use them for both flooring and walls. Not only do they protect the original flooring and wall underneath, but when you’re sick of looking at them you can simply peel them off! There are so many patterns to choose from, and you can purchase them from the likes of amazon and other online stores. These tiles are a simple way to turn a standard (for example) bathroom into something with a little more “pazazz.”

Use mirrors to make rooms look bigger

Not that we think you’re going to knock down your living room wall for some extra space, but we can all appreciate that sometimes rooms can feel a little cramped, especially if you own a lot of furniture. A great way to elongate any room in your home is to add a mirror. Taking a leaf from Sonoma Magazine they advise in their magazine that a tall mirror will immediately draw your eyes upwards creating the illusion of a more spacious room. Mirrors can also be used in rooms where there are no windows, to help mimic the idea of a window, they are best used when in the generic shape of a window, i.e. A framed mirror. (Just be sure when you are using mirrors, lean heavier ones against the wall to avoid damage).

Use bright rugs

A lot of rental properties are very neutral in décor, this makes for an easy canvas for tenants. A fun way to turn around your neutral brown living room carpet is to layer colourful and bright rugs on top. They help protect the flooring underneath and allow you to add your own fun accents to your home to help give your living space its own personality. Fun images/ shapes on rugs can help break up your room and give it more dimension. You can shop for rugs on amazon, or Ikea have an excellent range of colourful and affordable rugs.

No drill curtain rods

No one wants to leave a rental property with big holes in the walls, a familiar culprit of this is curtain poles. So why not instead try no drill curtain rods? These are perfect for decorate and incredibly easy to install that leave no damage behind, simply lengthen them to your desired size, and tighten the tension to help them stick to the wall. An excellent idea if you have blinds and you are wanting to add more depth to your windows with curtains. You can find these poles on amazon, and there are videos on social media platforms such as Tik Tok which help show you how to install these poles with ease.

We are buying a house through Euan at The Property Store East Kilbride and he has been great. Knew all about the property with questions we had, helped us envision ourselves there and was always available on the phone with questions we had. Great estate agent and would definitely recommend him and The Property Store   Elizabeth Allum

Property store have been so helpful in helping me find my letting property. It’s my first flat that I am letting on my own and they have been so good with all the information I have asked for. "For some time I had been looking at further property development opportunities on a buy to let basis. As a landlord I had already been working successfully with the Property Store for a number of years and I took the opportunity to discuss this with them. Living remote from East Kilbride and having talked through my requirements it was clear that the most suitable option was for the Property Store to source, develop and let on a fully managed basis.

I have been very impressed with the speed that things have moved particularly how quickly the properties are upgraded and prepared for letting to the point where we have had tenants in advance of completion of works. As a result I have now added three properties in a matter of a few months.

As a remote landlord it is essential that you build confidence in the agents you are dealing with and the team at the Property Store have been excellent to deal with. They are a well-trained motivated team who know what they are doing.

The Property Store utilises the services of a number of key contractors with whom they have has a business relationship for many years. The contractors know the exacting requirements of owner Lorraine Robb and can be trusted to provide competitive quotes as well as completing works to a high standard. The Property Store fully inspect all works and provide regular feedback and are quick to take care of those small details that make all the difference.

I have no hesitation in recommending the Property Store to anyone considering a fully managed service from sourcing to redevelopment to letting."
